Assistant Fire Chief Position: Steese Volunteer Fire Department

Join our Team. Under the general direction and supervision of the Deputy Fire Chief, the primary duties of the Assistant Fire Chief shall be:

1) Responsible for the efficient management and implementation of department EMS & FIRE training programs for career and volunteer staff members. This position reports directly to the Deputy Fire Chief.

2) Responsible for the oversite of the recruitment and retention program of all member classifications.

3) Duties include administrative, supervisory, staff training, instructing, technical fire and emergency service duties at all levels encompassing emergency response, participate in Battalion Chief Coverage, hands-on fire ground, EMS and rescue activities, and serve as Incident Commander when needed. The Assistant Chief shall serve as an example in teaching, coaching and mentoring of all personnel.

4) Maintain physical fitness to perform arduous emergency scene duties.

Safety Coordinator/EMT: UAF

The Toolik Field Station (TFS) at the Institute of Arctic Biology (IAB) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced EMT and Station Safety Coordinator. TFS is a world-renowned Arctic field station located 360 road miles north of Fairbanks on the rural Dalton Highway. The remote station supports researchers, students, and others from around the world. The population of the station can vary from 3 in the winter months to 150 residents in the summer (over 400 different individuals annually) and is open 365 days a year. This position oversees one seasonal EMT/Safety Coordinator during the summer season (May-September). Reports to and coordinates with the TFS Facility Supervisor. Train seasonal and full-time staff. Develops Toolik Field Station safety program and policies. This position requires residence at TFS one-half to three-quarters time from April through September and half time from October through March. During the summer, the position rotates schedule with the seasonal EMT/Safety Coordinator. TFS will consider training the right candidate in different aspects of the position, including Wilderness First Responder certification, hazardous materials management and EMT I/II certification.
