American Heart Association (AHA)
Basic Life Support (BLS) & Heartsaver CPR and First Aid Courses

Heartsaver CPR and First Aid courses: These courses offer essential First Aid and CPR/AED training, tailored for individuals outside the healthcare field. They are suitable for various professions.

Courses under this category include:

  • Heartsaver® CPR and AED (for CPR training only)
  • Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR, and AED (for CPR and First Aid training)
  • Heartsaver® First Aid (for First Aid training only)

HeartCode® BLS: Designed for healthcare providers, this Basic Life Support course covers adult, child, and infant CPR, along with Bag-Valve Mask usage and rescue techniques for choking patients. Targeting pre-hospital providers, nurses, doctors, dentists, and other healthcare practitioners, this certification is crucial for maintaining licensing and certifications, including medical or nursing students. Note: This course does not include first aid training. If your job requires First Aid certification, you'll need to supplement with the Heartsaver® First Aid course.

There are three options available to receive certification through the AHA for BLS or CPR and First Aid:

  • Option 1 - Blended course provided by IREMSC
  • Option 2 - Request an onsite course taught by IREMSC at a location of your choice
  • Option 3 - Connect with an instructor to explore course availability

Course Option 1: Blended AHA Course offered by IREMSC

This option includes American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR, First Aid, and Basic Life Support CPR (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. It's a blended course with online video-based lectures followed by in-person hands-on skills check-offs conducted at our office. Participants must purchase the online AHA course from elearning.heart.org and pay a separate, non-refundable fee of $80.00 to IREMSC for the AHA Heartsaver CPR, First Aid, and BLS for Healthcare Providers skills check. This fee covers the cost of a pocket mask and completion card.

Blended BLS-CPR and Heartsaver CPR and First Aid Skills Checks are available every other week from 8:30 am to noon, typically scheduled on Tuesdays. If fewer than three students are registered for a Skills Check, the session will be canceled, and alternate date options will be provided upon notification.
