CPR & First Aid / BLS

American Heart Association (AHA) BLS (Healthcare Provider CPR Course) & Heartsaver CPR & First Aid Courses

There are three ways to receive AHA CPR and First Aid certification. You can take a blended course, offered by IREMSC; you can request a quote for an onsite course taught by IREMS at a location of your choice, or you can contact an instructor to see if they are offering courses.  First, AHA has many courses to choose from:

Heartsaver CPR and First Aid courses: These courses provide information on first aid and CPR/AED training.  Heartsaver courses are designed for the layperson, someone who is not in a healthcare field. Examples are- babysitting, daycare workers, bus drivers, etc.

These courses include:

• Heartsaver® CPR and AED (for those who only need a CPR Course)
• Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR, and AED (for those who need CPR and First Aid)
• Heartsaver® First Aid (for those who only need First Aid)

HeartCode® BLS: This is a Basic Life Support course designed for healthcare providers and includes adult, child, and infant CPR, use of Bag-Valve Mask, and rescue of a choking patient.  This course is geared towards pre-hospital providers, nurses, doctors, dentists, and other healthcare providers who need a CPR certification for their licensing and/or certifications (including medical or nursing students).  This course does not include first aid.  If you need a First Aid certification for your job, you will also need to take the Heartsaver® First Aid course.

Course Option 1:  Blended AHA Course offered by IREMSC

This option is for American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver CPR, First Aid, and Basic Life Support CPR (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. This is a blended course that includes ONLINE video-based lecture and in- person hands-on skills check off at our office.  There is a fee for the online AHA course (purchased on elearning.heart.org) and a separate, non-refundable IREMSC fee, of $80.00 for the AHA Heartsaver CPR, First Aid and BLS for Health Care Providers skills check which includes a pocket mask and completion card.

Blended BLS-CPR and Heartsaver CPR and  First Aid Skills Checks are offered every other week from 8:30am – noon, generally on Thursdays. If there are not 3 students register for a Skills Check class, the class will be canceled and you will be notified of other date options.
